Standing at 1.7 meter and weighing at 62 kilograms, 25 year old SEA Games double gold medalist Suryo Agung Wibowo is a picture of a lean mean running machine. He hails from Indonesia

and has a personal best of 10.25 seconds in the 100m and 20.76 seconds in the 200m

Both his timings above are a breakthrough clocked at the last SEA Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand

, which earned him a double gold in the both event

This up and coming athlete from Indonesia who began to make his mark since 2003 when entering athletics. Although last in his heat, he ran a credible 6.83 seconds in 2003 during the 9th IAAF World Indoor Championships

During his first SEA Games at 2005 Manila, Phillipines, he didn’t win any gold. A 10.57s seconds in the 100m qualifying and the finals earned him a bronze, agonizingly losing to two Thai athlete

But he was a sprint king in waiting. He trained under the watchful eyes of his coach and made an amazing double gold in SEA Games 2007 Thailand. In the 100m, he was close to his national 100m record of 10.20 seconds set by Mardi Lestari in the 1989 National Games, which has stood for nearly 20 years

Mardi Lestari, once dubbed the fastest man in Asia

, Suryo Agung Wibowo have vowed to break Mardi record when he goes to Beijing this August for the Olympics. When interviewed, Suryo promised, “I hope I can break Mardi’s record during the Olympics”

Well he has surpassed expectations and doing far better than previous Indonesian athlete sprinter. Suryo senior sprinter John Herman Murray once also set the same target to break Mardi Lestari record, but he failed

If recent races were to indicate his performance, Suryo Agung Wibowo recently ran in the Australian Circuit last February. He clocked 10.79 seconds in the 100m and 21.50 seconds in the 200m

Will Suryo be able to do it … we shall see this August
